ABOUT MY COMMUNICATION SERIES
All of human endeavor depends on communication. Indeed, the survival of any species relies on communication to identify family and friends, to warn of potential dangers, and to be able to work together for the benefit of all.
We tend to take our communication abilities for granted, but there is much miscommunication and misunderstanding, which can lead to lost opportunities, hurt feelings, and conflict -- even war. Ironically, as our communication devices become more sophisticated, the potential for misunderstanding multiplies.
In my Communication Series, I explore the ways that humans communicate – or not. I use stone heads made from fabric to represent "everyperson" and to add a little quirky lightness to the work. Fiber and fabric, with endless colors, textures, and patterns, allow me infinite possibilities for artistic expression. And from fiber, paper was created – which revolutionized communication by providing an inexpensive, durable medium to leave a lasting record of the human journey.
